Welcome!

I am a Doctoral Candidate and Instructor in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences Program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Georgia (UGA). I earned my Bachelor's degree in cognitive science from Indiana University and my Master's degree in psychology from UGA. I am currently a project director in the Experimental and Clinical Psychopharamacology Laboratory at UGA and was previously a Franklin Foundation Neuroimaging Fellow at the UGA Bio-Imaging Research Center.

My research interests include cognitive neuroscience, addiction, impulsivity, behavioral economics, and neuroeconomics. I use a multimodal approach to asking questions about these constructs by combining experimental laboratory methods with neuroimaging techniques (including fMRI). My dissertation research is examining the influence of acute psychological distress and alcohol craving on self-control and preferences for alcohol versus alternative rewards in a sample of heavy-drinking adults. Visit the Research page for more information about my scientific work.

I also teach undergraduate psychology courses and mentor undergraduate research assistants in the laboratory. I currently serve as an instructor in the Department of Psychology at UGA and previously worked as a part-time adjunct instructor at Piedmont College in Athens, GA. My experience as an instructor includes undergraduate courses in cognitive psychology and research methods and a graduate-level teaching of psychology seminar. I have also been a teaching assistant for introductory psychology and abnormal psychology. Visit the Teaching page for more information about my teaching activities.

On this web page you will also find information about my publications and other professional activities. If you would like to know more about my work, please feel free to contact me via email at mamlung AT uga.edu.

Exciting news! I was recently asked to be a co-author of a chapter on behavioral economics for a new textbook on health behavior and public health. Our chapter, titled "A behavioral economic approach to health behavior," will appear in the upcoming text Health Behavior Theory for Public Health: Principles, Foundations, and Applications published by Jones & Bartlett Learning.
