Welcome!
I am a Doctoral Candidate and Instructor in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences Program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Georgia (UGA). I earned my Bachelor's degree in cognitive science from Indiana University and my Master's degree in psychology from UGA. I currently serve as a project director in the Experimental and Clinical Psychopharamacology Laboratory at UGA and was previously a Franklin Foundation Neuroimaging Fellow at the UGA Bio-Imaging Research Center.
My research interests include substance abuse, cognitive neuroscience, impulsivity, and behavioral economics. I use a multimodal approach to studying these constructs by combining techniques from experimental psychology and neuroscience. My dissertation research is examining the influence of acute psychological distress and alcohol craving on self-control and motivation for alcohol in a sample of heavy-drinking adults. I also conduct a program of research related to scholarship of teaching and learning, where my current work focuses on the impact of different mentoring relationships on student success. Visit the Research page for more information about my scientific work.
I also teach psychology courses and mentor undergraduate research assistants in the laboratory. I have served as an instructor in the Department of Psychology at UGA and also worked as a part-time adjunct instructor at Piedmont College in Athens, GA. My experience as an instructor includes undergraduate courses in cognitive psychology and research methods and a graduate-level teaching of psychology seminar. I have also been a teaching assistant for introductory psychology and abnormal psychology. Visit the Teaching page for more information about my teaching activities.
On this web page you will also find information about my publications and other professional activities. If you would like to know more about my work, please feel free to contact me via email at mamlung@uga.edu.

Exciting News!
I was very honored to be named as one of the recipients of the 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Georgia. This award is given annually to five graduate students campus-wide "who have demonstrated superior teaching skills and have contributed to teaching beyond their own classroom responsibilities, making a significant contribution to the instructional mission of the University." I received my award at the annual Faculty Recognition Banquet attended by UGA President Michael Adams and other distinguished faculty and administrators. |
